The floods that struck several areas in North Aceh Regency on November 26, 2025, continue to have a serious impact on community access to clean and potable water. As of February 2026, some water sources, such as wells and household water networks, had not fully recovered and remained at risk of contamination.

As a sustainable response to this situation, distribution of clean, drinkable water was resumed in February 2026 to ensure the basic needs of flood-affected communities were met.

This program was carried out in four flood-affected villages: Matang Serdang and Matang Seuke Pulot Villages in Tanah Jamboe Aye District, and Alue Anoe Timu and Alue Anoe Barat Villages in Baktiya District. The program targeted communities still experiencing limited access to clean and drinkable water following the disaster.

During February 2026, clean drinking water distribution was carried out eight times, with a capacity of 2,000 liters per distribution. The total volume of clean drinking water distributed reached 16,000 liters.

Based on the assumption that drinking water needs are 19 liters per household (KK), this activity has reached approximately 842 families, equivalent to 2,526 people affected by the flood.

In addition to the drinking water distribution, a 1,000-liter water tank was also donated to the community in Alue Anoe Barat Village, Baktiya District. The water tank is intended for general community needs during the month of Ramadan, to support religious activities and meet daily clean water needs amidst limited access to potable water sources.

Beyond focusing on meeting basic clean water needs, recovery efforts have also expanded through the construction of a Child-Friendly Space in Alue Anoe Timur Village, Baktiya District. This space aims to provide a safe and comfortable place for flood-affected children to play, learn, and receive psychosocial support.

In line with this, throughout February 2026, the Geutanyoe Foundation also conducted psychosocial support activities for children and communities affected by the floods in the four villages. To date, eight psychosocial activities have been conducted as part of efforts to restore the mental and emotional well-being of the community, particularly children affected by the disaster.

Geutanyoe Foundation Field Coordinator, Iskandar, stated that sanitation and clean water availability remain serious problems in several evacuation sites for victims of the massive floods and landslides in Aceh.

"Sanitation and clean water availability remain major challenges in a number of affected areas. Therefore, ongoing support is urgently needed so that the community, especially children and vulnerable groups, can live healthier and safer lives during the recovery period," Iskandar said in a written statement on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

This series of activities is part of the ongoing commitment to supporting post-flood community recovery in North Aceh Regency, including aspects of health, access to clean water, and child protection.

Support and cooperation from various parties are essential to ensure that post-disaster recovery efforts can proceed sustainably and have a broader impact on affected communities.[]
