You've nailed a point, but in some cases, people judge their kindness towards others by the response they get from other people which could be negative. It's just like mentoring someone on a digital skill and they person eventually gets popular and richer. Instead of giving you a measure of respect, he or she looks down on you and treats you like a total stranger.
