Preparing Dawadawa Tea (African locust bean)

Dawadawa tea is an indigenous recipe that many don't even know about in Ghana and I think it should be given a lot of attention for several reasons.

It has a lot of health benefits. Most people think that the only use of dawadawa is making soup but the fact is that dawadawa as a tea or let me say a drink is delicious, if you prepare it the right way.

So how do we start?

Have your water boiled, we still use charcoal here because we like how natural that is. Add some spoons of the finely ground dawadawa and mix it well together. By the time the mixture is boiling, a cool smell starts filling everywhere. Whether you're doing it outside in a traditional way or in your closed kitchen, you'll definitely smell it.

After the boiling process is done, the next thing you'll do is sieving or separating the liquid from the chaff. So get a clean plastic sieve that fits perfectly and do it.

Now with this part, some people enjoy drinking without adding anything else, no sugar no milk and some are ok with a little chaff inside. But it is strongly advised to the elderly and patients who have diabetes and hypertension to sieve well and avoid sugar or milk, but that depends on your case.

For children and young people, adding sugar and milk makes the tea even .ore delicious. Actually, it becomes almost the same as the ordinary tea except that you can't miss the local touch. Just incase you don't have something to sieve the chaff away, you can be pouring the mixture between two cups again and again. Just to get the chaff away. I even do that not for chaff but to get it properly mixed from up to down on top of mixing with spoon.
