In other words, today marks its 62 years of independence after it gained freedom from Great Britain which was our colonial master, this day was known to be the happiest moment in the country's history.

Some facts and history about Nigeria

Nigeria usually known or called the Giant Of Africa is located in the western part of Africa, Nigeria is also known as the most populated black nation ever with nothing less than 218 million people, Nigeria shares boundaries with four nations which are (Niger from the northern part continent, the Chad Republic in the northeastern part of the continent, Cameroon in the Eastern part of the continent, and the Benin Republic in the western part of the continent). Nigeria has two main traditions which are: Christianity, Islam, and Traditional worshippers (Idol worshippers), so many believe the Christians have a larger population while others believe the Muslims have a larger population but there is no legit fact to prove this.

It was said that before the British empire colonized Nigeria, Nigeria was home to so many different pre-colonial states and kingdoms, with the Nok civilization in the 15th century BC marking the country's first internal unification. The modern state arose from British colonialization in the nineteenth century, taking its current territorial shape with Lord Lugard's 1914 merger of the Southern and Northern Nigeria Protectorates. In the Nigeria region, the British established administrative and legal structures while exercising indirect rule through traditional chiefdoms. On October 1, 1960, Nigeria became a formally independent federation, this was a great achievement for the nation.

In the year 1959, a Nigerian named "Taiwo Akinkunmi" who studied in London designed the Nigeria flag in two colors green and white

Nigeria Nation Anthem
Arise, O Compatriots
Nigeria's call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labor of our heroes past,
shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might,
One nation bound in freedom, peace, and unity

The Second part

Oh God of creation,
Direct our noble cause
Guide our leaders right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

Nigeria National pledge

I pledge to Nigeria as my country
To be faithful, loyal, and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity and uphold her honor and glory
So help me God.

Nigeria has so many lovely and natural cultures and traditions, but they are classified under the three basic ethnical groups which are:

  • The Igbos

The Igbos are found in the Eastern and some southern parts of Nigeria, they are known to be the most industrious set of Nigerians because they are known to be very successful in the business sector and the entertainment industry.

They are also admired by others because of their survival instinct, "it's said that if you travel to any part of the world and you can't find an Igbo man there, you should live in the country because it's not a useful or productive country"

  • The Hausa people

This set of Nigerians is located in the northern part of Nigeria, this set of Nigerians is known to be good and successful in political affairs because most leaders in Nigeria are from the northern part of Nigeria.

The Hausa people are known to be good farmers they have the biggest land and most fertile soil in Nigeria, it's said that most food consumed in Nigeria was produced from the north.

  • The Yorubas

This set of Nigerians are known to be from the western part of Nigeria, they are known for their lovely respect for culture and traditions, the Yorubas are known to be the most educated citizens of Nigeria because most professors are from the western part of Nigeria.

Also, they are leading in the Nigerian entertainment industry, most especially in music and comedy, they are known to be really smart and really intelligent people.

Although there are three major ethnical groups in Nigeria, there are so many minor ethical groups in all the regions in Nigeria, for example, we have the Tiv, Igala, Fulani, bokas, Obia, ijaw ethnical groups, etc.

Recently Nigeria has been tagged with bad names and reputation which has made so many hate Nigerians and its people but I say to you today that Nigeria is a great country with lovely people and traditions, it saddens me whenever a set of people or country is condemned because of actions caused by just a few people's in the country. This is so sad because this hated country and its countrymen have done many remarkable activities that changed the world positively.
