Tropic Thunder is a film released in 2008 and directed by Ben Stiller. It´s hilarious and curious to me that Ben Stiller has done everything in this film, not only he directed it, he also wrote the script, he was a producer and he is one of the protagonists as well, Ben acts as Tugg and we also watch a familiar face which is Robert Downey Jr acting as Kirk. Tropic Thunder is one of those movies that I didn't expect anything from and honestly it made me have a great time since it's a comedy that doesn't take itself seriously at all, it has many absurd situations that you can't help but laugh.

Making a quick summary, Tropic Thunder tells the story of some movie actors who are in charge of making a war movie, a man has the idea of taking these actors to the jungle and making them live the real experience before the movie, the thing is that they will be alone without help from anyone, they will be watched by hidden cameras in the trees and in order to get out of the jungle they will have to follow the script that was entrusted to them, however, keep in mind that they are in a true life and death situation and therefore must have a quick way to escape.

The truth is that this movie wouldn´t be so good if it weren´t for the protagonists who have very good chemistry with each other, this allows the bond between them to feel real and we can feel empathy for their situation, I would dare to say that some even have character development, for example we have Ben who acts as Tugg, who is a quite unfriendly character and who only cares about getting the best possible performance, however, we manage to watch some growth in him as a character due to the bad experiences that he has during the course of the film, all for not wanting to cooperate with the others.

The humor that Tropic Thunder handles tends to be somewhat satirical from time to time, the film will drop some references to movies or real life actors and in turn the humor tends to be a bit dark without going extremes so it can be quite enjoyable for anyone, even the gore scenes are too exaggerated to give that humorous touch. I don't have much more to say about it, Tropic Thunder is a comedy that doesn´t take itself seriously but that nevertheless doesn´t feel stupid, it has a cast that has chemistry between one and the other which allows many fun scenes. Tropic Thunder is not the smartest comedy in history, far from it, but it is still recommended to watch to have a good time.

This movie is one of my favorite still comedies that exists. One thing I thought was amazing was that it wasn't evident that the evil producer back in Hollywood was actually Tom Cruise until the end credits. It seems so obvious after they reveal it to you but when it is going on you don't really notice it because they did so much to make him look NOT like Tom Cruise.

Same as you, it´s one of my favorite comedy movies, I had a blast watching it and yeah, the Tom Cruise thing happened to me too, I didn´t realize it was him until later in the movie.

His presence in the movie at all was kind of a surprise since Tom tends to not be in silly comedy films. Maybe there's more to this guy that we know?
