Such is Life(Poem)
Peace is cheap; if you’ve not paid for war,
Life is sweet; if you’ve not tasted sorrow,
Judgment is bliss; if you’re not the judged,
He who has not faced war;
Still remains a full-fledge man.
Friend, such is life.
To know the value of health,
Ask the sick.
To know the essence of freedom,
Ask the captives.
To know the value of life,
Ask the dying.
To know the essence of strength,
Ask the wearied.
Friend, such is life.
To know about suffering,
Ask the homeless and the helpless.
To know the meaning of pain,
Quiz the woman in the pang of labour.
To know the value of friends and family,
Visit the deserted.
Friend, such is life.
And if you’ve so much held this mirage world
Too tightly to your anxious chest.
Just visit the morgue and quiz the dead,
You’ll get your answers in the gestures of their honest palms.
You’ll learn some lessons in the expressions of their chilled bodies,
And provided you can read very well;
You’ll find the summary of their whole travail,
Boldly written in the lines of their open palm,
Friend, such is life.
