Happy Monday Steemverse!!

With the holiday season upon us I thought I would take some time to write about traditions. There is a lot t be said in holding on to traditions. I think that one of the major reasons this comes to mind is I was thinking about several things I did with my family when I was a kid. They truly are some of the most wonderful memories I have.

Tradition reinforces values such as freedom, faith, integrity, a good education, personal responsibility, a strong work ethic, and the value of being selfless. Tradition provides a forum to showcase role models and celebrate the things that really matter in life.

Our world is becoming more interlinked. We now freely talk and make friends on the other side of the world from us. As we become more unified as global citizens, it is important that we still honor our cultures and families.

Once upon a time storytelling was one of the ways traditions were handed down. The historians of past ages were called bards, wise men, shaman, or even chief. A singular individual of a tribe was responsible for knowing that tribe's history. It was their responsibility that their successor be educated with this knowledge to pass down to future generations.

Each religion, culture, region have their own views on what is celebrated this time of year. It by all means does not mean any particular one is right or any are wrong. A season that was long treated as a coming together of family has now been turned in to a financial debacle and the source of so much hatred.

My ancestry is Scandinavian and The British Isles, (namely Scotland and Ireland.) So yes I am a Viking and a Celt. LOL My family tradition on my mothers side is primarily Norwegian. My great-grand parents immigrated around 1877. Our Christmas celebration consisted of lutefisk, lefse, boiled potatoes, white sauce, potatis korv. All home made, minus the lutefisk. Thankfully we still made ham and turkey for those of us that didn't live life dangerously and eat lutefisk. Our holiday baking and cooking usually started a week before Thanksgiving and carried on each week between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yeah our table was a little monotone LOL.

The songs my grandma would hum and sing a little bit, her stories of when she was a girl preparing meals like this. My grandma cursing under her breath at my mom and my aunt. And a room full of Uff Da's all day long. Im surprised I didn't pick that up, with as much as I heard it.

Always be proud of your heritage and traditions. It is not corny to uphold tradition, but in the same time don't be afraid to start new ones. It's those moments that stay with us a life time. They comfort us in bad times and helps us not feel so lonely when we are separated. While pictures are not as plentiful as they are now, we worked at making the most of those moments, since that is what we carried through life.

Tradition does not mean to look after the ash, but to keep the flame alive. - Jean Jaures

A profession that almost dissapear from our tradition is a trubador, mobile storyteller.. because youtube has covered that job😂. I couldn't agree more with you, when I moved in to my hubby's house, I still cook the traditional food my family prepared on Eid, but then I made some adjustment with my hubby's family tradition 😀 one day I will make my own tradition too.

Have a wonderful week and merry christmas @tryskele😍
