My rock collection

For many, the 1970s will always be remembered as a true musical spring, with avant-garde artists such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and Deep Purple. In this context, a new trend appeared, the so-called "power pop" trend, which corresponded to the emergence of new wave and punk.

Among the new bands that emerged with these powerful guitars was The Romantics of Cheap Trick, but one band that stood out above the rest was The Knack. I couldn't talk about My Sharona, 1979, the song that made them famous all over the world. The song topped the charts in three weeks and behind it was an amazing and relatively unknown love story.

The original lineup consisted of four names: Doug Fieger on vocals and guitar, Burton Averre on lead guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, Prescott Niles on bass, and Bruce Gary on drums and percussion. Figer will be the seed that unites the group and unites the other three. In the late 1970s, Averre created a beautiful guitar riff for My Sharona, but it sat in a drawer for a long time waiting for a good excuse to include it in the song.

Inspiration came, as often happens in such situations, through routine. Time stood still when the musician met a young saleswoman in a clothing store in Los Angeles. “I felt like I had been hit in the head with a baseball bat. I immediately fell in love with him. "That was an opportunity and I started writing a lot of songs in a short period of time," Figer said, recalling his feelings when he met a girl named Sharona.
