My colleagues who studied agriculture weren't taken seriously

This is the irony of life. In high school, my agriculture students were seen as the least. The reputation of a farmer is almost like some common laborer but little do most know that the agric students are the ones with an almost guaranteed job. We really can't do without food. The agricultural industries of a country has a direct impact on standard of living.

If a nation has good agriculture, then it probably has less hunger and more people with less deficiency. It's better to be in a country where food is cheap and the flat screen TVs are expensive than to be in one where it's the direct opposite.

I didn't do agriculture in high school, I was doing science and we always didn't take the agric aspect of Integrated science seriously. We were spending hours looking at molecular formulas and laws of motion. But all the agric students I know have well paying jobs and some even have their own small farms. The practicality of their work is undeniable. That's why I no longer look down on agriculture.

I used to see it as just taking care of chickens and ensuring the lay enough eggs until I was done with school and having to live in the real world where the guys selling the chickens and eggs can increase their price of the economy goes bad or inflation hits. They'll always have food to eat and we the office people will need to ask for a pay raise and hope that the employer grants it.

So much work in agriculture and horticulture. You can work as a sales agronomist, you can even be the one responsible for making the fertilizers the farmers will buy. So you don't necessarily have to be on the farmland all the time. I think the problem is that youth of today want decent looking work and not something that makes them look like they're laboring but I must tell you that's where the real money is. I'm not saying you only do it for money because the more important reason is necessity.
