The cauliflowers I see look like a person's brain

I was looking at a few cauliflower plants today and I noticed something funny. Why does it look like our brains. Infact if you look at the cross section of cauliflower, it looks even more similar to the cross section of the human brain.

But truth is there's literally no similarity in the internal structure of a cauliflower and the brain of a person. The similarity trick happens in our own mind. The brain by design can notice patterns very easily because it is what helped our evolution. That's why it's normal to make connections based on the shape of these things we see, even when in reality there isn't one.

So this has everything to do with people's ability to see patterns and not any particular ease of forming those structures. It's exactly the same way that we see things in some clouds. You can watch the clouds and you see shape of someone's face or wings or some nice art. That could does not necessarily have anything in common with what you're seeing, it's your brain making the connection.

Another reason, and the more scientific reason, why they look like that is because cauliflowers will only have as many seeds as they can fit in them. Applying the concept of natural selection, they will try to fit as many seeds as possible, and that is what gives them this fractal looking structure. When you look at the outer layer of our brain, you can see that it behaves almost the same way. The outer layer of a brain having less smoothness means that there is more gray matter which means more processing power. In the middle of the brain, there’s the white matter which is what the connections are in and between the gray matter, the brain stem and the spinal cord. So naturally to these two problems, selection will find a similar solution because of simple geometry.

That was a little biology research lesson for you. I hope I've been able to explain why. If you see the cauliflower and you ever have the thought that it looks like a brain, this is why.
