Explain in detail the term "Transplanting"

Interplanting, also known as intercropping, is the method of planting two or more crops in the available space. Interplanting is a new practice because, as a young farmer, I had never used this practice until I associated with professional farmers who have expanded their farmland.

Intercropping, as the name implies, allows farmers to harvest two or more crops successfully at the end of the growing period. Farmers used to plant different types of crops together, such as maize, beans, and cassava. They would wait for one crop to come out, and after a week, they would plant another crop in the same bed. In this way, it allows farmers to maximise the available land. This method saves space and benefits all crops because they will release nitrogen into the soil.

Although not all crops can be planted in the same bed for instance onion and beans cannot be planted together because onion will not allow the beans to develop.

What is the importance of Transplanting in Agriculture?

• Increase yield: interplanting allows farmers to have a high volume of farm produce in the small space that is available. Practicing this method lets us have enough food in circulation.

• Weed management: Having two or more crops planted in the same space will help our crops grow well because this would prevent weeds from taking proper control of that space, thus suppressing the weeds from taking over.

• Pest control: Planting multiple crops together is an effective way to prevent pest issues that our crops may face. In this case, intercropping serves as a companion to protect our crops from being destroyed by insects.

• Reducing reliance on chemicals: Intercropping helps us not to depend on chemicals to control insects, as it is a natural method.
