Framers in different regions engage in different farming activities and take other necessary actions to enable crops do well. To be precise, farming does not just end when planting crops end. There are other post planting activities that happens to make the crops produce good yields some of which includes:
- Pruning
- Weeding
- Fertilizing
- Irrigation to just mention a few. These activities will make the crops produce good yields for the farmers.
As farmers, pruning is an important action that they take. I will be making my inputs as the subject of this contest is about pruning.
What is Pruning?
Pruning is that intentional act dealing with the removing or extracting plant roots, the buds, the branches for the purpose enhancing plant growth and shape for a better yield. When pruning is done on plants, the part being pruned will regrow to give the plant another shape and look.
For instance, my vegetables have rapid growth and points any direction. To control this rapid growth and reposition them from the direction are growing towards, I have prune them.
What are the different Pruning types?
There different types of pruning that farmers apply to their crops to give them a better yield. The type of pruning taken by the farmer depends on the purpose. Some of them are:
Pruning to sanitize the farm
This type of pruning is done to remove and stop the spread of infected parts of plants from getting to other plants or crops.Pruning to maintain the plants health
This is a pruning done to ensure that plants have good health by removing the parts of it that are damaged, infected or even dead.Pruning to thin down or remove too many plant branches This often has to do with plants having a lot of branches on them to stop their widespread.
The pruning of plant roots
This practice is mostly done in nursery farms where the roots of the plants are cut to control their size be transferring them to the main farm.
There is another type of pruning done to cut off the tips of plant branches. This is to make the plants to have wider spread and it is known as head back pruning.
These are just but few out of many types of pruning farmers practice.
What are the benefits/effects of Pruning
Of course, pruning has benefits and its effect are really positive to the enhancement of plants productive yields. Some its benefits and effects include:
It engenders new growth and plant development
It makes for easy farm accessibility
It reduces the spread of fungal diseases in the farm.
It makes the plants to attract enough air and sunlight
It really improves crop yields by the size and quantity of the produce. The quality of the crops produced is also enhanced
In summary, pruning has a lot of positive impacts on crops. Farmers Carry out these practices for different reasons based on their peculiarity of the crops. With these practices, they expect their crops or plants to make good yields during the harvesting periods.
