Cultivation is the fundamental characteristic of agriculture where land is used to produce agricultural products. It does not only entail planting seeds but it entails several processes which require careful actions such as soil preparation, planting, watering, weeding and even taking care of the crops to maturity when they are ready to be harvested. Agriculture in food security and livelihoods is a very serious issue where people mainly depend on agricultural activities as their livelihoods.

One of the most important processes of cultivation includes soil preparation. The farmers must ensure that the soil contains is fertile, well-aerated and weed free. This may be as plowing, use of organic manure or using fertilizers on the soil. The right environment is created through proper preparation of soil where seeds germinate and produce a healthy plant.

Other important issues in cultivation are proper planting. The time and the interval are also critical factors that determine crop success. The early and late plantation could affect the development, and the overcrowding could limit the availability of the nutrients and sunlight. The farmers are expected to be conversant with the needs of the crops to provide the best results.

Water management is also required in cultivation. Dissimilar crops possess the proper amount of water at dissimilar stages of growth. High water might lead to root rot and low yield might be brought about by low water. Most of the regions use rain fall and others irrigation system to maintain the supply of water to the farmer.

It is also important to control the pests and weed. Weeds substitute crops in their nutrients, water and sunlight and, therefore, they ought to be removed regularly. Farmers also apply natural or chemical methods to prevent the pest and diseases in crops to guarantee healthy growth.

Growing does not simply refer to growing food only but it is also connected to time, knowledge and devotion. It also educates of the diligence and the need to take care of the environment. The sustainable farming methods include crop rotation and organic farming which has a beneficial effect on the status of the soil and the conservation of the ecosystem.

In conclusion, cultivation is a vital agricultural activity that supports the life of man. By learning and best techniques of cultivation, farmers will be in a position to increase production, food security and experience an economic growth.
