Paulie was a spider that lived in a small little hole at the ceiling in a house. He had learned so well how to move in the confines of the house and had mastered it to a point, no one knew he was there. Living rent free and eating the insects that dared to fly by.

He had this made up system to map where the cracks were in the walls of each part of the building. He made this place his home, he was king there.

The owner of the house had a different plan.

The owner had come up with ever so original ways to lure him out because he sense there was a spider. Every single morning he would bump into some freshly made webs and was very disturbed by it. Paulie knew about insecticide and knew the time the owner uses it. Paulie could not be stopped.

The cup trick, Postcard, he had seen them all. One morning as he was busy minding his own business, waiting for a foolish insect to come and be his breakfast, suddenly, there was an awkward silence

Then a really big net made of plastic swinging behind him. He knew he was going to be captured, there was just no way out of this.

For all of this trouble, all the skills, the king has finally been captured.

The owner screamed, "Got you now." Paulie panicked because the end had come. But the owner, knowing how stubborn Paulie had been, understood that this spider wanted to live at all cost and killing it would be so sad. So the next thing he said was , "Be free."

He threw him out the window and Paulie ran off through the backyard.

But Paulie was really not used to the outside. The grass was soaking wet. He was supposed to be out there, and to be free, and be alive and all those great philosophical things the owner imagined for Paulie.

But Pauline stopped running, stood still watching the house he once ruled.

Returning to the house was better. He looked at the house and it was filled with the warm lights of the kitchen.

But Paulie was not concerned.

He knew had lived in that house longer than the human had owned it because this owner bought it 4 months ago and Paulie was born there and had been there for over a year.

He had trained and lived there better than any of the house's occupants. He had been built with three generations of ancestors behind the heating units in the walls. He was proud to say he had outlived the vacuum cleaner, the new T.V screen and every expensive thing the owner renovated the house with.

He said to himself, if I wanted to, I could go back to the house and now I know another trick to avoid, that big net and leaving my webs where they can see it.
