For this week's Steem Agro Pick and Write contest, I picked Gardening.

I used to believe that gardening was for those who had their life figured out and they just wanted to have a hobby but I have learned that gardening does help in a way to give you clarity and teach you some life principles like patience and care.

The basics of gardening isn't nearly as complicated to understand as some people will make them look like. Plants are pretty much just sun seekers.

Some plants will want to be directly under the sun like they are sun bathing all day, and some others will prefer a little sun. Knowing where the sun strikes in your yard is as helpful to you as knowing which is the most comfortable seat in a room with the best breeze.

You need to understand the soil as well. A good soil is loose, it is not compacted hard like clay is to the point of making it hard for you to shovel.

Good soil drains the water well enough to not become a swamp. When you grab a handful of soil and it forms into a very small clump, with the clump breaking up easily, you know that you have found yourself a good soil.

You can easily misjudge how much water to give to plants, the majority of beginning gardeners end up over watering their plants. They kill the plants but they had good intentions. You always need to give the soil time to dry out before continuing with more watering and one of the major reasons for this is that roots need air, just like they do water.

When plants are growing in wet soil they might be suffocating and you wouldn't know.

Starting with herbs is a wise thing if you're not experienced because they grow quickly, smell great and give you something you use for food or relief of illness. When you put something that you have planted into your food, it is an amazing feeling. This is where the patience comes into play, because the seeds don't care what your schedule is.You suddenly realize that you have been waiting for a couple of days and when you check today, still no growth, but one day you see tiny green shoots coming up, and you don't understand how that happened magically overnight.
