Some sustainable farming practices
Some farmers are doing so well and practices sustainable farming methods. Decent clean small farms.

I look at my own country and I see so much progress in agriculture and I also see so much room for improvement, especially in the area of sustaining what we're making.
If you want to scale up in agriculture, it is very important to establish a farmer's goals and objectives to find a pathway to sustainable farming. Clear goals and objectives will help you to identify the step practice to monitor, the level of confidence to identify barriers you'll encounter and the level of knowledge you need to identify all the risks involved as you keep going. You need policies no doubt.
Policies to manage the sustainability of farming should also set specific goals for sustainable farming. You're a longe term planner that's why you need to know all this before you even start.
Sustainability of farming is not the same as organic farming, but it is more of a component.
For thirty years, my grandfather ridge farmed and have banded his fertilizer to use less to prevent it from leaving the field. He soil samples every couple of years and only spray for insects if it’s absolutely needed. To me, I see what he's doing as sustainable farming.
There is always a good seed bed, the fuel for his trucks is cut about 50%, his labor costs went down since he's not going the soil everytime season changes. He is also focused heavily in erosion control.
There will always be out of pocket costs and the fear of regulation. There are several agro climatic regions in developing countries like India where for the farming community sustainable agricultural practices become a default practice which is giving them an advantage.
You can keep yourself updated on new techniques and new products that'll help you in farming. For a farmer, whether larger scale or small scale, you'll probably work very long hours and it’s not easy to keep pace with all the new techniques and products.
Sustainable agriculture must include the idea that the farmer himself wants to stay in business for a lifetime or a really long time.
