SLC-S31/W4-“Creative Interpretation| The Object -“A Broken Clock”

Hello everyone!

The Clock That Stayed Behind

The old clock hung silently on the cracked wall. The house was closed. The glass of clock was shattered. The wooden frame was full of dust. The hands were frozen exactly at 7:16. For others it was just a broken object. But for Kareem it was the only thing he could never change.

Many years ago at 7:16 Kareem argued with his son. The harsh words filled the room. His son left the house in anger. Kareem thought he would return after cool down. So he did not call him back.

u something worst happened that night because his son dies in the road accident. On the spot Kareem received the news. The old clock stopped ticking. Since then he never repaired it.

Each evening Kareem sat under the broken clock with a cup of tea. He used to stare on the frozen hands of the clock. For Kareem the clock did not measure time. But it carried a moment that his heart refused to leave behind. The broken glass of clock reflected his guilt. The silence of the clock reminded him the words which he wanted to speak but never spoken.

People often told him that it is just a broken clock. But they did not understand that a broken thing carries stronger memories that the working ones.

On one rainy evening the light flashed through the window. It illuminated an old photograph beside the clock. It was the picture of Kareem with his son. Both were laughing together in the picture. For the first time in a long while Kareem smiled instead of just crying.

He finally understood something important that the clock was not only preserving the moment of loss. It was also preserving love.

What Does the Broken Clock Symbolize?

In my explanation the broken glass symbolizes the frozen emotions. It symbolizes the unfinished moments. Indeed the time continues but some people remain emotionally trapped in one painful memory.

The clock also shows the regret. Kareem keeps it untouched. Because it reminds him that anger can create wounds that never heal completely. Whether the clock is physically broken but it holds meanings.

Is It a Story of Loss, Hope, Regret, or Second Chances?

This is mainly a story of regret. But it also contains the hope. Kareem regrets allowing pride and anger to become stronger than the love. He never got the second chance to sorry to his son. However with the passage of time he learns that memories should not only bring pain. They can also teach us the value of the love and forgiveness.

What Lesson Does This Interpretation Carry?

My explanation teaches that time is fragile. It teaches that the words which we speak in anger can last forever. Many people believe that they will get another chance to fix the relationship. But the life does not wait for the next chance.

The story also teaches that broken things are not useless. Sometimes the most damaged things carry the deepest meaning. The clock no longer ticks. But still the silence of the clock tells a story louder than the sound.

In the end the broke clock reminds us to value the people before time takes the chance away.
