Pick and Write [Agricultural Word]👉#09
Some place not too far from the place I grew up is a farm, maybe three hours out, that is near a red soil roads. One thing that I've thought a few times about was how the fields with some trees around the outside of the field seem to be in better shape than those that are not. They looked greener than those without trees and less beaten up by the rains. It took me quite a while to figure out why.
Tree's are not just for decoration on the farm. They are what hold the soil together. In places where it rains hard and in some part of this continent, it rains hard, when rain comes down fast and hard like that, the bare soil just gives way to the water. It washes off of the land with the nutrients. Roots hold the soil in place and they give the soil some where to hold on to.
There is also the question of air. I didn't fully understand the air thing until I was in research and studying at my desk alone eating some groundnuts during the slow afternoon, which is actually a habit I developed during an uneventful rainy season a few years back.
The trees clean the air around them. The crops grow better, the animals are able to graze with less stress. The entire ecosystem becomes calm when there is cover above.
Forestry as a concept for farmers is very important and one thing you might want to consider is the time involved in establishing the trees on your farm. Planting trees on your farm is making a bet on an uncertain future which is not to be taken lightly. It is an act of faith that many of us were not taught how to carry. We just continue to clear land because it looks like it is productive when it is cleared. But always know that it does not remain that way.
Trees are working for us, we shouldn't forget that.

🎉 Congratulations!
