Planting is the process of placing seeds, seedlings or other planting materials into the soil so that they can grow and develop into mature plants for the purpose of human consumption and for planting to be successful, it requires a good soil, quality seeds, adequate water, proper spacing, and favorable weather conditions.

Farmers plant different crops such as maize, rice, cassava, yam, vegetables, and fruits depending on the seasons, climate and purpose of production. Planting can be done manually using tools such as hoes, cutlasses, shovel and matchet or mechanically using planting machines on large farms.
