Explain in detail the term biodiversity conservation
Biodiversity conservation means the protection, preservation, and sustainable management of the variety of life here on earth which includes animals, plants, the ecosystems that form them, and microorganisms. There are three levels at which biodiversity exists:
The genetic diversity that is different within species like different crops, varieties etc
Species diversity which is in a habitat.
Ecosystem diversity which is different from the environment like water land, forests, deserts, and oceans.
Conversation aims to ensure that all these forms of life continue to exist and function naturally despite threats like deforestation, climate change, overexploitation, and pollution.
What is the importance of biodiversity conservation?
The importance of biodiversity conservation is as follows:
It supports the stability of the ecosystem with rich biodiversity.
It provides food and resources and other essential items.
It is a source of medicines that is derived from plants and organisms.
It supports pollination and agriculture which animals like bees and butterflies are essential for pollinating crops ensuring food production.
Biodiversity conservation supports tourism as it holds cultural and spiritual significance in many societies.
