Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #71
What is Rotation?
To my understanding and several years in farming with my parents in my village, Rotation is a farming practice where farmers change the type of crops that are grown on a piece of land each season. So this means the practice of planting different types of crops on the same farmland over different seasons. For example; first year I plant maize, the next year beans, and the upperthird sorghum.
Outside of agriculture, the term rotations refers to moving or turning around in a circular motion. But in agriculture rotation means changing the crop that is planted in a farmland seasonally instead of farmers planting the same crops or plants repeatedly on the same land, they change crops or plants to maintain soil health and provide productivity.
What are the benefits of Rotation?
Rotation increases productivity in a fresh environment and tasks improve performance and motivation.
Rotation makes soil better for planting because it improves soil nutrients and minimizes pests and diseases.
Rotation gives new plants or crops and opportunities to grow.
Rotation reduce reducesg risks like when a particular crop didn't do well in a particular farmland it can do better and it is planted in a new farmland.
