In order to understand what soil erosion means we can compare for example with our juicy green lawn, or our garden where we have plenty of flowers. We can imagine that productive soil is looking dark brown or even black, it is airy and easy to dig the holes when you are planting. There should be enough water in soil. Often when we think about soil erosion that means that superficial layer of soil that is usually a protection for the deeper layer is gone.
There could be different reasons for that often it is natural disaster like a lot of rain so that soil is completely went and it is wash out.
In the case of the neighbourhood to salty seawater then in case of strong storm coastal ground can be washed out by salty water. Salt dries the soil too.
The other reason is human, we often destroy the healthy soil of course, without knowing that and without intention but sometimes it could happen.
As an example that is what we faced last few days here in UK, in southern part of England there are few houses that are located on coast, some people live there for long time and slowly during last years it is noticeable that after every autumn and spring when we have strong wind and much rain the coastal soil is washing out the ground and that is crumbles away, the houses have a danger of collapse. Many people had to leave their houses.

When there is a soil erosion, then the ground becomes unstable, the houses can collapse and soil can dry off. When the superficial protective layer is gone then the nutrient rich layer is also gone, that will affect the agriculture and farmers will not be able to plant crops, they will have no food to sell for people, such places will be then left behind and usually villages will be abandoned. It is the same for animals and birds who also will not be able to live there. We all have to be careful with soil and to do everything to protect our soil.
