While continuing learning more about the farms, working on fields and everything that has anything to do with the products for living and also with livestock.
When after autumn when we collect large amount of products that we collect from field, the next stage is to try to store them for either winter time or sometimes for longer time if the storage condition are good.
One of the important product of our field and for living is bread and all the products that we make from flour and that is made from wheat that is growing every year on large fields. Usually farmers have large containers sealed, pest-proof for storing grains with cool temperature. This why grains can be stored for few years. Farmers have contract with the flour producing companies, once it is flour produced then it can be kept for 3-4 months. That is why not all the grains will be used immediately but when certain amount will require.
Another vegetable that is harvested and stored for winter time is potatoes, onion and some other vegetables, that are also need to be stored in large, dry, cool area, at least over winter time so that the we have filled shelves in supermarkets from our local farmers.

For local farmers it is important to get good agreements and contracts with governmental organisation and that state supporting their local food producers and prefer them instead of ordering the vegetables from overseas.
I remember from our own experience of storing the fruits from our own garden, these are apples from couple of apple trees. In autumn we carefully collect intact apples from trees and in basement we have the wooden boxes that are then filled with apples. We use basement because it is cool and dark, I do not know if it is really so but in dark area the apples are stored for longer time.

This was very helpful agriculture knowledge, I like learning about how farmers keep food fresh in the difficult seasons.
