Soil Fertility

In order to get good harvest from the soil or from our mother Earth, we need to make sure that it has all the necessary stuff to produce good, healthy harvest. It is the same for both for farmers who work on big fields and also to those who have small gardens or even just vegetable raised beds or small vegetable pots on balcony. Often if people like in block high buildings they may just use their windowsills for the herbs that could be used for salads and fresh cooked food.

In order to improve the quality of soil there are few things that you have to pay attention to:

  • physical structure of soil, it is important that the soil is not dry or hard, because they it will not bw able to let oxygen through to the roots. Also the soil need to be able to let the water easily to reach roots.

  • essential nutrients, that is something that every new year, since spring time it is important to try to spread the selection of balanced minerals, trace elements that is necessary for healthy soil

  • we also have to think about biological activity, sometimes it is necessary to have some fungi and bacteria that while living improving the quality of the soil that help for many crops to grow easy and healthy.

The other important treatment of soil and improve its fertility is crop rotation when certain crops will be planted on certain fields each year and for the next year the places of the crops will be rotated. Often the fields are left for a year or couple of years are left without any use. That is why, often those fields will be planted by any other non profitable plants knowing that some plants induce more production of acidic or alkaline ph of soil it is a good preparation for the next year.

Hopefully when you know all the details you may use it for your own garden.
