SLC-S31/W4-“Creative Interpretation| The Object -“A Broken Clock”
Hello friends,
Welcome to another creativity series for the week. Let's get started on this beautiful note...
Build a creative piece inspired by A Broken Clock.
The clock in my master's room stopped working on February 28, 2026, at 3:05 p.m. A day I finally relocated to a new apartment after a decade of staying in my previous apartment.
This is the third month broken with my spouse asking when to be fixed. But I told her it did work correctly twice a day. She looked at me confused but I tried to explain further on this matter. In this case, when it is "3.05 am', and then "3.05 pm".
One spectacular thing about the correctness of the clock at these two different times is the feeling that comes with the moment. While the initial one is marked with the silence enough to hear the sound of a dropped pin, the latter is characterized by a sunny and busy day.
One thing that stood out about a broken clock is seen to have lost its measure of time but rather amplify its measure of "MOMENTS".
But fixing a broken clock would only restore the glory of time which in turn fades away the only tool that brings back valuable moments alive.
This is not living in the past but a constant reminder of keeping valuable events.
What does the broken clock symbolize in your work?
A broken clock is very distinctive in its space. It is a carrier of "Memory and Selective Time". Not just the conventional use of time we know but the act of time that doesn't leave the moment that matters. It symbolizes how we cannot do away with concerns of grief and love that do not follow a schedule of time.
There are important matters in our lives that have lived in our minds over decades and do not need time to remain as we live. There are moments we keep doing things that need our attention without the bounds of time.
Is it a story of loss, hope, regret, or second chances?
A story of hope and better things ahead.
It started with the hope and belief to leave an old environment for better things ahead. The old apartment is gone behind me with all of its worries and concerns that bedeviled it. It is hoped that this is how I am going to finally move into my personal apartment. 3:05 is just a remembrance moment for me that brings the correctness of time in a day with the hope that my aspirations would. definitely be achieved.
What lesson does your interpretation carry?
My key lesson here is that broken items don't necessarily have to be repaired before they're valuable. Sometimes they are the carriers of valuable moments we desire.
While an active clock keeps you on your feet that time is passing and wouldn't wait for you, a broken clock is a reminder of a past moment that is worthy of reminiscence. It allows us to stop and reflect on matters that have occurred.
Like when it has stopped for me at exactly 3.05, I have every use for this twice a day.

This is a stunning and introspective piece! I admire how you've turned an ordinary broken clock into a representation of hope, memories, and significant experiences. The notion that a broken clock is “right” twice daily, while also carrying deep emotional weight, really struck a chord with me. Your narrative about changing apartments adds a personal layer that enhances the metaphor's strength. I particularly appreciated the insight that broken items don’t have to be repaired to hold value—sometimes their stillness gives us a chance to consider what truly matters. Thank you for sharing this insightful viewpoint! I reading enjoyed it
Thank you for the amazing feedback.
