Today I am going to share with you about some facts of a Southern Moth.
Moth
Moths are a paraphyletic group of insects that contain all non-butterfly members of the order Lepidoptera, with moths constituting the great bulk of the order. There are an estimated 160,000 moth species, most of which are still to be described. The majority of moth species are nocturnal, however there are crepuscular and diurnal species as well.
Facts About a Moth
- Moths come in a variety of sizes.
- There is a carnivorous moth caterpillar, the Ashen Pinion, and Lithophane antennata, a well-known predator of winter moths.
- Some moths have a two-year life cycle in frigid areas.
- Some moth caterpillars, such as the "Io," have stinging hairs.
- Moths constitute 80% of the order Lepidoptera.
- A tiny group of moths is known as "Bird Dropping" moths because, you got it, that's what they look like when they're resting.
- Moths use two strategies to find their way around. When light sources are obstructed, they utilise the moon and stars, as well as geomagnetic indications.
- Cloth Wool, fur, and other animal goods are consumed by moths. It is due to their ability to digest Keratin.... a protein found in these foods.
