First reviews of Nolan's Creed: the most powerful film since Inception

in LifeStyle4 years ago

Nolan's new film Creed has been scheduled for release on 4 September in the Mainland, but it has already been screened to the press in some European countries. Two journalists who saw the film gave their post-viewing thoughts to the foreign media Worldofreel, and the first reviews say that Creed is Nolan's best film since Inception, and there are many reversals.
The journalist commented: "This is clearly a film for Nolan fans who will love every minute of this film, which is the best Nolan film since Inception. It's similar to Scorsese coming back to make a gangster movie or John Ford making another western, Nolan has returned to his roots after making Dunkirk. Creed has so many twists, turns and reversals that its story feels like a jigsaw puzzle, along with the weighty action sequences. 150 minutes go by in a flash.
To be honest, I still don't fully understand some parts of the story and watching it again would help clear things up, it's a very intricately crafted time travel film. If Inception was about dreams, Creed is about reversing time and righting the wrongs of the past. The locations filmed are also amazing, with locations shot in many countries. This movie could make a ton of money because it gives Nolan's fans exactly what they want and the final scenes do require multiple viewings."
A second journalist commented, "Contrary to mainstream moviegoers, I'm not a huge fan of Nolan's films. I think his best work, for example, is actually Dunkirk, in which he tries to avoid giving us the brain-burning mysteries that his other films would bring, and instead just portrays World War II with technical mastery and a minimalist perspective. Other films of his that I enjoyed were Fragments of Memory, Insomnia, Deadly Magic and The Dark Knight (the last 20 minutes). I didn't particularly like Star Trek or Inception, they seemed to me like forced illusions that deliberately confused me in the process rather than telling the story in a coherent way. I didn't expect him to be so good at shooting shooting scenes, he doesn't like to stay on one shot for too long, but keeps switching.
In any case, we already know that Creed is not a Dunkirk-type film, yet it is much better than Inception or Star Trek because: a) there is not much theoretical description (exposition); b) the actors are great, especially the main actor John David Washington, and I also liked Elizabeth Debicki's character, played by Robert Pattinson It's the calm and collected Lee equivalent of Inception; c) the plot reversal design is actually not that complicated and you can follow the plot of the film without getting lost. Like some of Nolan's other films, Creed has a lot to do with time and fate, but presents it in a more refreshingly simple way. The action scenes are great and it feels like Nolan has learned a lot from his experience making Dunkirk, he's now much more confident in the way he performs the action, there's almost no redundancy or excess, it feels like it's just handy."
