This time, I’m sharing a piece I’ve been working on nonstop for the past couple of nights. It’s a piece where I wanted to create a character who’s a kind of very powerful witch—a magical entity who, thanks to an ancient and powerful amulet she wears around her neck, can cast all kinds of spells no matter how impossible they may seem. She can turn all the fresh water in a river into poison; she can completely incinerate a vast forest in a matter of minutes; but above all, her powers are based on the manipulation and control of others; thanks to the power of her necklace, she can control the will of any person or creature, subjecting them to her total will:

En esta oportunidad les traigo una obra en la cual estuve trabajando a full el ultimo par de noches, se trata de una representación en la cual quise inventarme algo así como un personaje que fuese una especie de Bruja muy poderosa, una entidad mágica la cual gracias a un antiguo y poderoso dije que lleva colgado en su cuello puede realizar toda clase de hechizos sin importar que tan imposibles parezcan, puede convertir toda el agua dulce de un rio en veneno, puede incinerar completamente un gran bosque en cuestión de minutos; pero sobre todo sus poderes se basan en la manipulación y control sobre los demás, gracias al poder de su collar puede controlar la voluntad de la persona o criatura que sea, sometiéndola a su total voluntad:

I started, as usual, by making a solid sketch to capture my general idea, the body structure, and so on. In this case, I opted for a more portrait-like style, depicting the witch from a low-angle perspective. I drew her with a fairly stylized and feminine appearance, featuring large, sharp fangs protruding from her lips, and a somewhat cold and sinister gaze. Once the sketch was finished, I moved on to the next step in my process: coloring. In this case, I started by building up the skin using medium pink tones to achieve a slightly more unique style for my character. Then I began using my airbrush and watercolor brushes to gradually build up the highlights, shadows, volume details, and so on.

Empecé como es habitual realizando un buen boceto para plasmar mas o menos mi idea, la estructura corporal y demás, en este caso opte por un estilo más retrato con una perspectiva de la bruja desde abajo hacia arriba, la dibuje con una apariencia bastante estilizada y femenina, con grandes colmillos afilados saliendo de sus labios, y con una mirada un tanto fría y siniestra. Ya habiendo culminado el boceto continúe con el siguiente paso de mi proceso, el de coloreado, en este caso empecé con la construcción de la piel usando tonos rosados intermedios para lograr un estilo un poco más único para mi personaje, luego comencé a usar mis pinceles de aerógrafo y acuarela para ir construyendo de a poco las luces, sombras, detalles de volumen y demás.

For the eyes, I wanted to convey a rather gloomy and somber personality for my character, which is why I used a few orange and reddish tones to create the internal details, such as the iris and pupil, as well as adding a bit of shine to the edges. For the lips, I used more violet and fuchsia tones to give them a more sensual look, and for the fangs, I used grays and my comic brush to create long strokes. To draw the hair, I used slightly darker pink and purple tones, and with my watercolor brush, I smoothed out the hairstyle, then used the bristle brush to add some volume and texture to the hair.

Para el trabajo de los ojos buscaba lograr transmitir una personalidad bastante tétrica y sombría para mi personaje, es por ello que use unos cuantos tonos naranjas y rojizos para ir creando los detalles internos como el iris, la pupila, así como también dándole un poco de brillo a los bordes. En el caso de los labios use unos tonos mas violeta y fucsia para darle un estilo mas sensual, y para los colmillos use grises y mi pincel de comic realizando trazos largos. Para la construcción del cabello use tonos rosados un poco más oscuros y morados, y con mi pincel de acuarela me encargue de darle la forma lisa al peinado, ya luego con el pincel de cerdas fui creando cierto volumen y relieve para el cabello.

As for the outfit, I used more bluish tones to create a sort of elegant long-sleeved dress. Here, I wanted to use only my watercolor brush to achieve a slightly rougher texture with plenty of shading. To create the necklace hanging from her neck, I used slightly more grayish tones for the base structure. Then, for the center, I created a large blue gem—which would be the necklace’s center of power, where all the magical energy is contained. For this, I used my flat brush and square brush; and finally, I took my airbrush and began adding a bit of shine around the gem to represent the power of this mysterious jewel.

Con respecto a la vestimenta usé tonos más azulados para crear una especie de vestido elegante de mangas largas, aquí quise usar solamente mi pincel de acuarela para lograr una textura un poco mas rugosa, y con bastante sombreado. Para la creación del collar colgando de su cuello use tonos un poco más grisáceos para la estructura base, luego para la parte central cree una gran gema de color azul, la cual seria el centro del poder del collar, donde se encierra toda la energía mágica, para esto use mi pincel plano y el pincel cuadrado; ya para finalizar tome mi pincel de aerógrafo y comencé a darle un poco de brillo alrededor de la gema para representar el poder de esta misteriosa joya.
