$63 Steem Dollars to Cuban Artist on Steemit

El Barbudo No Era Zurdo 2015. Acrylic on canvas, 30 x 24"

I don’t know where to begin. The government I live under is a mafia state. We have no control—not even the slightest sway power without threat of precision violence. I don’t think that millions of Americans realize how bad it is, nor how quickly it can get much worse. A people’s desire to live stupidly is stronger than wiser revolt while their food bowls are full.
How full are the bowls in Cuba? Can I help an artist? Isn’t this what peer-to-peer is all about? The regime in Washington D.C. is a pariah government squeezing your nation. The good news is that the U.S. empire is dying, and the bad news, unfortunately—not quickly enough. I do not wish to make a game of suffering. I’ll transfer my $63 savings of steem dollars to the first Cuban artist to join Art & Artists (if not already here), and send a 30 second doodle picture with the date and some Cuban proof. I’ll have to take your word if not as obvious as obvious can be:)
I hope you are well in love, and your families safe.

Fellow Steembee, sick of separation.

I happen to have electricity; it's 2:01 AM and I just saw a message from @wakeupkitty. Interestingly, this morning, after sharing some ideas with an artist friend, I was wondering if there are any projects that help other artists. Outside of Cuba, some time ago, I was able to help many artists; I worked with them, and at least in my homeland, I know many artists and intellectuals, and it hurts to see them fading into oblivion. I even think a Steemit community of Cuban artists would be huge. I know painters who have had almost no resources to create their work, graduates of art schools, and very talented sculptors. Anyway, after remembering a story that included (a blank book) like all the dreams that are left unfinished, my friend's agile handwriting reached me; I think it's a very powerful gesture from @ronthroop, not everyone is willing to help. While the world needs more art every day, we'll continue here, trying to turn ugliness into art and transform gray tones into blues and greens and light. Greetings from Las Tunas, Cuba, the sculpture capital.

I have some ideas in the works that mainly depict hands, and a project with faces that I've already started.
Finding paints or brushes is quite an ordeal. The only place I know has a few acrylic paints. So you can only choose whatever colors are left, from any brand; they might be bottles from different brands. The canvas I've been using was sent to me by Kitty; I haven't been able to find anything else. It's possible other materials could be used, but they would be extremely expensive. I paint after work; the lighting isn't the best, writing is a challenge too, then I have to go to work, if the electricity allows me to work. So art ends up taking its place in the dark, between exhaustion and the soul that wants to communicate and learn.

Thanks for reading this.

If you'd like to support my art, you can consider buying me a coffee.

Beautiful words!

So art ends up taking its place in the dark, between exhaustion and the soul that wants to communicate and learn.

I know that feeling, that urge, of making art in the face of adversity. Or simply, just persisting when time is not on your side. The sculpture capital, eh? My friend Eric has a creative way to acquire marble for his projects. There is a specific quarry in Vermont (U.S.) where he searches the perimeter of the property for discarded stone. He has gotten into some difficult situations pulling the marble chunks back to his truck. They’re not cotton balls! But it’s worth it in the end. He could never afford market marble. The urge persists. And then he takes this:

And makes that:

I am a novice at transferring funds. Please let me know if this was a success!
I hope you can get a Cuba group together, when time allows.
Ah, when time allows! Meanwhile, best of everything to you and family!

I love that painting!

@almaguer is an artist from Cuba. He cannot always reply because for the biggest part of the day they are out of electricity not to mention the lack of water, food and and and.

He is a very active member, a writer, and taught himself how to paint (a wish he had and I helped to realize by sending the materials before everything closed down).

If it comes to the gov and the end of the empire it looks like the entire world is dragged down. 😕

I have received reply from @almaguer, and am glad.
I remember the face, we have commented to each other before:) Amazing writer.
Thanks for helping:)

First, thank you for your help. Art should be one of the bridges that humanizes us and unites us. I've already received the SBD. I suppose the universe always tries to provide us with friends and like-minded people who use art as a form of response, as a weapon to open minds and hearts.

Thank you, because those who know the gentle hands of the muses know how reluctant they sometimes are to assist us.

Yes, I know your work, and we've exchanged words in the recent past.

WOW. An artist has this ability; they must use the available means and let the art flow onto paper, stone, dreams. Many don't value the infinite possibilities within their reach; things like having electricity, clean water. Painting in my country is a huge challenge; there are no stores where you can buy anything related to art, you use the black market, it's extremely expensive. A small 22ml pot of low-quality acrylic paint can cost a minimum wage.

So I try not to dwell on the difficulties; I try to create, to give color to life.

Thank you again.
