Oilpaint - Van Gogh/Cobra & Artisan water mixable - 2
I told you I take private painting lessons at the teacher's home on Mondays. It depends on how long I can or like to paint how long this lesson takes. It goes up from two hours to four or more.
I started at her home because I knew she has oilpaint water mixable and didn't like it and put it aside. The name of het paint is 'Van Gogh' it no longer exists or better the name changed into... Cobra. As far as I could see there's no huge price difference and the mixable oilpaint is oilpaint without the smell and it makes cleaning hands and brushes way easier (it is also better for the environment.
If you like to see and earlier fase of the painting underneath look here.
Taking photos is a good method of looking through different eyes at your work, although the result also depends on the camera and the light fall.
If it comes to this one different types of paint and medium are used. I do have my concerns about the end result, so I see this one as a test and who knows I even stimulated the teacher to use it again since she suffers from strong allergies and keeps coughing non stop.

Materials used thusfar: Van Gogh water mixable paint, the standard oilpaint, Cobra oilpaint water mixable, medium for standard oilpaint (instead of the one sold for water mixable oilpaint) and Windsor & Newton - Artisan oilpaint water mixable (I decided to buy some colours to replace those colours I needed and used the standard oilpaint for).

Is there a difference between the brands and oilpaint used?
I find it hard to tell since I worked under different circumstances and temperatures and some paint is really old and somehow I tend to think that Cobra works better than Artisan.
I started this painting by adding a bit water to make it more smooth (a damp brush is enough). Great for under painting, it dries fast if you work thin, although I didn't really make one. Also some parts I did without water meaning these parts are thicker.
The next two lesson I used the medium for standard oilpaint since that was what the teacher had available, but not everywhere.
Because the oilpaint needs time to dry I couldn't finish it. The medium slows down this progress, although we painted outside. It looks like I need one or two more lessons to finish it unless the teacher keeps talking and I feel stuck.
Note: The quality of the tubes and the printing on them is poor at Artisan. After just two uses, the text and colour are already starting to flake off! I’m still torn as to whether I shouldn’t just buy Cobra instead for the few colours I’m missing.

(Note: The quality of the tubes and the printing on them is poor at Artisan.) You know more about this than I do, but I like how the painting looks, it looks happy, its happiness is contagious, I'm already smiling and I like to smile
