RE: The Camden Market Free Art Man 31st May 2026

in ᴀʀᴛ & ᴀʀᴛɪꜱᴛꜱyesterday

I wonder if people think there might be a catch when art is free? I’ve noticed at our giveaway shop that people often feel uncomfortable when they’re told they can just pop whatever they like into their bag and walk straight out. It feels a bit like stealing, and there’s also that sense of propriety or the need to give something back – that’s what we grew up with.
I’d have loved to have picked up a few things, but unfortunately I’m not in Camden; who knows, maybe I’ll get there one day, provided I can get a visa.
Nice to read that you’ve found a place in Thailand. I hope it’s possible to stay there into old age. In practice, that doesn’t work out for many people.
I’m still looking for a place myself. Good luck – you’ve still got a lot to sort out.

A lot of people assume there's a catch, or don't understand why I'm giving my paintings away. It's helpful in putting off people who can't be that interested anyway. I hope you find a good place to retire. If Thailand doesn't work out, there are a few back up plans. All in South East Asia though.

For sure life is saver and easier then in Europe. It's good to have a bbackup plan. Doea anyone take care of your place if you are not around?

Yes, my girlfriend's family use our apartment when we're not in town. Her son's 19 and pretty much moves in. For a 19 year old, he takes very good care of it. Much more responsible than I was at his age.
