We did do this technique at primary school and back then I liked it. By the way the primary school I visited invested a lot of time in creativity. Every Thursday afternoon you could pick an art you liked (pottery, wickerwork, etching, jigsaw cutting, woodworking and pyrography, soldering, and so on).
