If you ask me, Utrecht is the place to be, not Amsterdam. Utrecht has everything your heart desires. The station has been renovated, making it much colder and draughtier, and the reason for this is, of course, that homeless people no longer spend the night there. There is now a square between the station and the famous Hoog Catharijne shopping centre, or as they once called it, the shopping heart of the Netherlands.

The city of Utrecht is located in the province of Utrecht and also in the centre of the country. The city has been trying to ban car traffic for years, and public transport is good in itself. I say 'in itself' because if trains are cancelled due to weather conditions or overdue maintenance, it can take a while before you arrive or you may be delayed. But that also applies to Amsterdam, which suffers from this even more often.

Utrecht is a student city, the people are very friendly and helpful, not pushy. There are very nice neighbourhoods, or as they call them, quarters, in the city centre where you can walk to your destination or just sit on a terrace. And yes, people do this here too, even though it was really bitterly cold, close to freezing. I found it remarkable that in one street, all the Christmas trees with lights were still standing. In the middle of the street, you can see the Christmas lights transformed into what I suspect are Valentine's Day lights above your head. Certainly not uninviting and, given the grey and cold weather (winter), this is a nice attraction and certainly not out of place.

We set off for the Nijntje (Miffy) museum. What a long walk that was. On the way, we saw the Nijntje traffic lights and also took a look at the Dom, the Dom Square and the surrounding area. Our final destination was Hoog Catharijne again, not to shop but to visit Akiba, the largest Japanese arcade centre in the Netherlands, and I can tell you that it is definitely worth a visit. Two hours? That's far too short (we didn't leave home until after noon).

If you love canals, enjoy sitting by them or sailing through them in good weather, then you certainly don't need to go to Amsterdam; you can do all that in Utrecht. There is much more to do here, it is more pleasant, less dirty and you won't be trampled underfoot.

Even in bad weather, Utrecht is definitely worth a visit, especially if you come by public transport. You can simply walk from the station to the market or to Hoog Catharijne, where you can wander around for hours. We didn't have much time to visit Hoog Catharijne itself, so we only went to one toy shop where the Pokémon figures were better stocked than in the special Pokémon shop we saw during our long city walk.

The Spoorwegmuseum (Railway Museum) is also within walking distance and definitely worth a visit. On certain days, you can take a ride on an old steam train, but even if you find that too expensive, you can still view most of the trains from the inside, not just from the outside, or even from underneath. I definitely think this is a fun museum, especially when there is a theatre performance on the platform. Utrecht has something for everyone, from old architecture to Herman Brood.

I would love to sit here by the water... but in sunny weather.
And yes... I'm afraid that my camera wouldn't have enough battery power and a spare memory card))

Speaking about the memory card and the battery, I was joking a bit) I meant that I would shoot a lot of things there, everything is interesting and unusual for me.
When I get into a new environment, I lose my criticality for the material a little and start shooting everything in a row. Anything that attracts my attention in one way or another. You do understand that everything attracts attention in a new place))
About the heat and the heated benches... It's 20C outside my window right now and my wife and I are going to get to the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea). If there is no strong wind, we want to go out on the ice and take a walk there. The sun is shining today and it's a natural vitamin D. It's a sin to miss such an opportunity. And yes, there definitely won't be any heated benches 🤣 😂😅

Don't worry, I understood you would shoot and shoot which is what I do as well unless there are others taking pictures and my fingers get frozen.

Lucky you with such a temp, share me some sunshine of the Baltic sea please...I guess my vitamine D will come from a bottle unless Incannsleep through the winter.

Enjoy your days out.
🍀❤️

This was the best day of the whole winter :)
I will make a separate post... perhaps one will definitely not be enough)

Such a beautiful view! I can only imagine how it is to be there.
Thank you for sharing.

Ps winter isn't over yet...

I will make a post with more detailed photos soon. Maybe you will be able to feel yourself there, among the trees, snow and frost.
I hope that winter will still have time to show us a lot of beauty. Now there will be more sunny days, which means more light and richer color :)

It snows again.. let's see if I can take some photos myself... no promises... LOL Sounds as if it's cold in the entire world. Even in Cuba.

Thank you. I'm catching a flight today, so I'll be travelling for a while, but I'll have landed by the time Team True Colours starts. I wish you a wonderful weekend too. We'll speak again soon. Take care.

Looks like a very interesting city to discover!

I think it's a great city, much better, less dirty and less violent than Amsterdam. The same goes for Rotterdam. Let's just say that since the Second World War, when the city was bombed, things haven't improved and certainly haven't been anything to be proud of in recent decades. Fortunately, there are many beautiful places in the Netherlands that are certainly not inferior to this city and where life is much better. You will find many older Roman remains, including walls that are still present under the city and are marked, so if you love history, you can indulge yourself. But of course, there are also neighbourhoods and districts that are a lot less beautiful, simply built under the news, simply because there is no investment, because there are many poor people living there, people who can barely make ends meet, or people who do not feel the need to maintain what they are given, causing a neighbourhood to deteriorate even further. Recently, there was a major fire in Utrecht and many houses were on fire. I haven't heard what the cause was, but given the fact that there are suddenly unexplained fires in many places in Europe or that reasons are being invented as to why something was interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if this was simply arson. Thank you for watching, reading and your response.

Thanks for sharing your trips! I love to travel but sadly I didn't do any travel again since my last in 2017 (a birthday self gift 😆).

I think that rich people are picking for them the best place, and if they need more, always is easy to make people go away using techniques less drastic, like what it's happening in the Spanish Islands where a normal person hardly can buy or rent a place to leave.

Miffy in pedestrian green light?

Love this series. You are like my tour guide to Amsterdam now

And also in red light...the official name is: Nijntje..which is the last part of the Dutch word 'konijntje" which means little rabbit (the stands for little/small).

My daughter calls the red light: Nein- tje (Nein is German for No).

Tye green light is called: JA-the (yes)

Well, February is here, the month that represents me... lots of LOVE hahaha... I'll try to earn some votes
