Don't Be Scared To Try.
Just a few days ago, I was having a conversation with an elderly man and he said something that struck me, which also became a food for thought for me and forms the basis for today's write up. He said, "I admire people who tries something and makes mistakes or fail at it than someone who never tries"
I know someone might want to argue by saying "what's the essence of trying and failing, I better not try". Well, this position is not a very good one. The person who tried and failed now has what we call "Experiential Knowledge" which cannot be gotten from any book or from anyone because it was experienced first hand.
Do you also know that such person who has tried but failed or made mistake is better than someone who hasn't tried because he has conquered fear. The same fear that holds people back from doing great things for themselves. Fear of the unknown has crippled more people than you can imagine and somehow they have just admitted to failure by giving in to fear.
Someone who always try has also conquered that urge to give excuses on why they think something is unachievable. Excuses and procrastination are subtle negative behaviour that hold people back from making remarkable progress. Have you had a discussion with people who gave you a thousand and one reason why they think something can't work without even trying? Well, they are suffering from these negative behaviours.
It's okay to try and make mistake along the way, you have only learned how not to do something or go about it. It narrows down your result until the only result left is success. The man who invented bulb went through this process, not a easy one but the end turned out beautiful. Failure became success.
It is not always over until you say it is. As long as you keep trying then it's not over. If 7up had stopped at the 5th attempt, there wouldn't have been 7up. They finally got the recipe for their drink and a wide acceptance at the 7th attempt because they kept trying until they got it.
This is a feat someone who never try would never attain. Such person would never know what it feels like to be celebrated after experiencing many downturns and failures. I hope you get the message I'm passing across in this post. now permit me to ask, what is that project you've been holding back on? What are those things you're creating unnecessary excuses for, What are you really afraid of?. I think it's high time you get started....
Give it a try!
