How significant is the word memory to you? Share! |

I would say that the word memory gives a deep meaning to me because it connects my past to who I am today, you know past can never be wiped away. Memories are like invisible threads that tie together every moment, emotion, and experience that made my life journey. They remind me of my starting point in life, what I have overcome, the people who have walked beside me and who left me along the way. Some memories bring laughter and warmth when they are remembered, while others carry lessons and quiet pain, yet all of them play a role in building my identity (who I am).
Memory also gives life meaning, as it allows us, learn from mistakes, and appreciate growth. Without it, we would move through life without direction or reflection. For me, remembering is also a way of honoring; my loved ones, dreams, and experiences that once made my heart full. In a world today where everyone is noisy and moves fast, memory helps me pause for a while, reflect and reconnect with the essence of life. Memory is not just a word, it is a treasure pack that holds pieces of my soul.
Do you believe that memories serve as the foundation for our understanding, enabling us to distinguish between pros and cons? |

Yes, I strongly believe that memories serve as the foundation for our understanding and help us distinguish between what is good or bad, right or wrong. Every decision we ever made or make is influenced by what we’ve experienced in the past. Each time we remember how certain actions made us feel or what they caused us, we naturally begin to apply wisdom in situations.
Memories act as our inner guide, they help us not to make certain mistakes repeatedly, to avoid facing the consequences. For example, if we once trusted the wrong people who made us feel bad or made poor decisions, the memory of that moment would always come up, reminding us to be more careful next time. The same applies to happy and successful memories which show us what works best and encourage us to maintain positive behaviors.
In conclusion, memory is not just seen as recalling the past; it’s about implementing the past to shape the present. It is through our memories that we gain understanding and develop values to balance the pros and cons of life’s situations.

I still recall the day I heard the news that JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) had released the results. I got home thrilled and told my mom about it (It feels like it was just yesterday). The following day, my mom gave me some money to buy a scratch card and check my result. I went with some friends, and on our way, I saw they were nervous, but I told them to remain calm because I wasn't afraid.
When we finally saw the results, everything turned out great and we were set for the university. It was a joyful moment when I returned home. My mom made a lovely meal for me after seeing my grades and promised to provide everything I needed for my studies at the university. Everyone in the neighborhood kept congratulating me on my success, and I felt like a goddess; one woman even brought drinks and snacks to celebrate me. Looking back, I wonder how she thought to do that just for my admission, but it was a happy moment I will always remember.

Hi @ninapenda , An interesting sentence... "memories act as our inner guide." I agree with that, because no human being can walk according to their heart's desires without being guided by what has happened, even if it's painful.
Yes, memories not only open our eyes, but also our hearts to be less selfish and respectful of others, minimizing the recurrence of past mistakes when we repeat tasks or make the same decisions.
Memories also influence our feelings and even act as a mirror that can reflect on ourselves at different times. If someone has helped, they will be helped, or if someone has hurt someone, they must be able to accept the hurt...
Interesting post, have a nice day.
