Incredible India Monthly Contest of January #2: Protective vs. Possessive
How do you glance towards the two "P's"? Describe!
I see the two "P's" as close relatives with different intentions.
Protectiveness comes from concern, care, and love. It says: "I want you to be respected, safe, and happy even if that means letting me grow in my own". It allows one to have freedom but stay alert.
Possessiveness, on the other hand, comes from insecurity and fear. It says: "I'm afraid of losing you, so I need control." It limits freedom and often mistakes control for love. In summary of this; protectiveness builds, while possessiveness cages.
Share some reasons behind the possessiveness in any relationships!
Possessiveness doesn't appear out of nowhere. Common reasons include:
Fear of loss: I feel I might be abandoned or replaced
*Low self-esteem or insecurity:" They don't feel "enough"
Betrayal or past trauma: old wounds influencing present behavior.
Lack of trust: in the partnership or in themselves
Emotional dependency: making one person the center of their entire world.
Social conditioning ot cultural: confusing control with love.
