Incredible India monthly contest of October #2|While making decisions!

In daily, routine living, choices big and small, frivolous and essential, bombard us. But there are a few considerations to take into account to have sound and wise decisions. First of all, one has to know what the problem really is.

Decisions are also ripe for misdirection when they are made on the basis of too little information such as too little knowledge or understanding. Second, you need to take into account the relevant details and facts. Good judgment is not the result of feelings but of data and logic. Third, for every option you must evaluate the short- and long-term consequences. Ananticipatedly good decision today can have negative ramifications tomorrow.

There are also moral and ethical considerations to factor in when making this type of decision. Righteous decisions carry greater and longer lasting positive effects. In certain cases, to help you in making decisions, it is also necessary to consult or ask for advices from other people who have knowledge in the issue.

But there are also situations in which we have to decide for the benefit of the community and not only for ourselves. Such decisions dot the lives of people, and many people, in families, companies, and communities. And, in those cases justice and solidarity should be axis. For instance, a leader must be sufficiently selfless to subordinate his/her own personal interests to that of the group with the purpose of creating unity and trust. At work too, decisions made by managers, or the teams they assemble, should take into universal account—rather than just the benefit of the firm—everyone's interests, including those of the people who use the services.

There are at least some different things here, which I will attempt to elucidate and demonstrate a bit how some of them are useful in dealing with adversity. 1 Stay calm and don't panic so you can think straight. Take your analysis back to the drawing board by using some of the problem-solving tools to analyze the problem, identify the problem, generate alternatives, evaluate the alternatives and then select the best alternative.

Communicate clearly and with compassion if more than one person is involved in the decision. And so after-action review of a decision is an essential ingredient in learning about decision making. Taken together, all these considerations serve to improve the quality of decision-making for everyone, and lead to better, fairer, and more sustainable outcomes both individually and collectively.
