The January contest #1 by sduttaskitchen| Priority!
The idea of priorities isn’t just a list of things you want, but more like a guide for how I want to live my life. With a better grasp on what matters most, we can spend our time, energy, and resources more mindfully. And I need to re-evaluate my priorities, as is my tradition going into the new year, to both reflect and gear up for grab the bull by the horn new challenges.
My health, both physical and mental, are the main priorities for me this year. But where good health is absent, success elsewhere is precarious and unsustainable. I definitely want to be more consistent when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle, working out/getting some type of physical activity on a regular basis, and allowing/creating space in my life for mental well-being through adequate sleep and self-reflection.
My second area of priority is personal growth and continual learning. The world is ever changing at a fast pace, so having the ability to learn and adapt is vital. I would like to develop some of my skills in my area, and go outside my comfort zone. My third priority is meaningful relationships, whether it’s my family, my friends or my colleagues. Good relationships offer emotional sustenance, fresh perspectives, and profound feelings of connection.
Conversly, there are a few things i want to take off my list of priorities. One of these barometers is the incessant need to make everyone happy. This pursuit can be very tiring, and can blur the lines of one’s personal motivations. Also i want to stop multitasking so much, as this can have a detrimental effect on the quality of work, and increase the anxiety levels. By taking out the priorities that do not align with my core values, I intend to create a more focused and authentic life.
I think that stating priorities up front is key to any getting things done. With priorities defined, decisions are easier to make and we are less prone to distraction from matters of lesser importance. Clear priorities also act as milestones to check how we are progressing and adjust our course of action if needed. Otherwise we end up meandering, busy but not really getting anywhere.
In the end, priority-setting is a process. It has to be revisited from time to time as situations and life goals evolve. Priorities can help us live a more meaningful and intentional life, but you have to be aware of them and honest with yourself to harness their power.
