Campus Diary- My Journey to University of Calabar For Pre-Nuga Qualifiers And Campus Promotion
Hello friends and welcome to my blog today, a few days ago I took a new adventure in a National University Lawn Tennis qualifiers.
NUGA which stands for Nigerian Univeristy Games Association 2022 is a biennial sports competition between all the Government Universities in Nigeria. The competition is designed to explore and grow the athletism of Nigerian students in different universities.
So 17th and 18th we held our zonal qualifiers for the main event which is popularly known as Pre-NUGA, which was held at the Univeristy of Calabar.
So on the 15th of February 2022, we left Micheal Okpara Univeristy of Agriculture, Umuahia to the Univeristy of Calabar in the city of Calabar.
The Univeristy arranged for the whole trip, so we just had to appear at the pickup location and leave for our destination. We were instructed to arrive early at the pickup location which we did, but we ended up leaving 6 hours later. It was the beginning of a very stressful day.
We soon left and started our 4-hour long journey to our destination, we arrived at our destination by 7 pm, we waited for an additional 3 hours to be taken to our hostel, we waited for another additional 4 hours to get a room and eventually slept by 3 AM.
This journey proved to be the most stressful journey I have ever embarked on in my life, but I didn't feel so, probably because of the sense of adventure it filled me with.
It was soon morning and we got up and ready to train for our game the next day. We started training at 8 am in the morning and trained for more than 5 hours, afterward, we went to get something to eat at a nearby market.
We had our Team talk and concluded on a few matters before we left for our hostel.
Matchday 1
Our Games are live we are having our first match today by 10 AM, we had our first game against the Univeristy of Uyo, they inevitably took both sets and triumphed over us.
We had a second match against the Univeristy of Calabar and we were also sadly and inevitably defeated and out of the race for the 2 singles slot open.
Sadly the same thing happened in our singles female game. We were eliminated from the games entirely. We however still had a very big opportunity to get a slot to Lagos under a different category(Mixed Doubles). The game was scheduled for the next day and we were ready to take our chances on this one.
While we were still playing @benson6 arrived at the venue of the games and joined us, this was my first time seeing him and it was very great having him at the court and supporting us, even though we lost LOL.
Our second day at the games was much better than our first, we had better performance and increased confidence, but inevitably we were eliminated, but we felt much better cause of how good we played.
After we were done with our games, we stopped by the volleyball court to watch our school play, it was a brilliant display from the Team.
They played like a team and showed strong character, I really enjoyed their game, they were however eliminated by a tight margin, overall it was a game rigged by the officials and umpire.
We partied later and were on our way home the next day. Overall it was a great experience in University of Calabar.

The system is not fair, but we will come back stronger next year.
Is it an annual event?
Nah biannual
Congrats @whitestallion More wins. I wish you all the best. I like your dressing. It suits you.
Wow that was an awesome write up.
Don't worry about losing at least you got the skills and experience.
