RE: Gedicht: Arbeit, Sinn des Lebens?
You may not want to go there, but I thought of Bertolt Brecht as I read this.
Great comparison ... the 'only' difference is that Brecht was a famous poet, and I am a complete amateur. :)
Your German language skills must be really good if you are reading German lyrics!
My German language skills are not good, but DeepL Translator is. I know enough to make sense and appreciate the beauty of a piece, but sometimes accurate translation is beyond me. However, when it comes to Brecht, I have been a fan for more than 50 years. First read him at NYU, during a time of political foment--Vietnam War and civil rights protests. I was young, impressionable, and he was perfect :) So perfect that in 1969 when the Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui was staged on Broadway, my sister bought tickets (which were an extravagance at the time) so I could see the performance live. I'm still a Brecht fan. As I learned more about the philosophy behind Epic Theater I came to appreciate how much Brecht has influenced modern performance art. Please forgive the extensive response, but comparing you to Brecht, for me, is high praise :)
Of course - thanks a lot!
Unfortunately, everything in the lifes of so many people is completely accommodated to the requirements of their work.
