The Debate (no.51); Office
Introduction |
---|
Many people have their choices in life, what works for Mr A may not work well for Mr B. While others may prefer working from home, I am just on the opposite. Besides, we all have reasons for our choices that's why I implore you to read on.
Which do you prefer: working from the office? |
---|
I am a teacher, right before I got married and started having kids, I have not been working at home. I remember the days I'd spend extra time working in the school and get to my house late. You'll love to know the reasons for that, won't you? Here;
I believe that the office is for work while the home is for rest, that's why it is not convenient for me to work from home.
The office setting sets a working atmosphere devoid of distractions unlike the home. I remember trying to take books home to prepare my lesson notes. I always end up not achieving success because I'll get distracted by my children who'll always need one thing or the other or sometimes will fight which will require me to stand up. In the end, I may achieve very little success and sometimes be filled with errors. Not just that, I remember a day when I brought books to work at home. I stood up to get something, leaving the books. By the time I returned, my daughter had already torn the cover and some pages of the book. It was a sad experience, since then, I refused to bring any work home.
Working at the office sets the office mood which means work all the way. Unlike working from home that may cause some forms of laziness or maybe thoughts of procrastination because there's always a thought of "I can do it anytime."
There's always productivity working at the office unlike working from home. I understand that people worked from home during the COVID-19 lockdown, mine didn't work out because some of my students weren't concentrating because they got distracted from people and things around them. For those times at home, no good success was recorded because they weren't focused in the online class like it used to be in our physical class due to distractions from home.
Working at the office lifts boredom as you'll always have people to interact with. That reminds me of a certain job I got some years back with good pay. But I considered the isolated environment, it was a new office at the University of Uyo permanent site which was a newly developed area of the school.
The offer was good but I considered that I may get bored or even get depressed because at that time I was going through emotional heartbreak at the time.
That was an isolated office, working from home can cause isolation and may lead one to suffer from loneliness and even get depressed in the course of lonely work.
Does working from office boost your productivity? |
---|
Yes, it does boost productivity more than working at home. From my last example of reasons why I chose to work from the office, I have stated that achieving success was not achievable for me as a teacher because my students were distracted unlike the physical classroom where they could concentrate and ask questions where necessary. That made us start all over from the beginning when we resumed at school after the COVID-19 lockdown.
I also find working from the office productive because I'll finish my task, unlike working from home that I'll be distracted and may not also be able to complete my task.
Working from the office has all the necessary inputs needed for an individual to accomplish your task or to achieve success. Unlike working from home, you may not have all the implement needed to accomplish your task. For instance those working in the factories, it is not possible for them to produce their goods at home because they may not have all the needed machines at home except if the factory would be moved to the home.
How does the office environment affect your mood? |
---|
Office is a working environment and so, sets an atmosphere for work. No matter how convenient a home is, an office setting is just the best. It sets a working mood at all times, no time to joke, procrastinate or feel lazy especially when presented with a task/matters that need urgent attention.
For me, the office environment is more convenient than working from home. That alone sets me in a comfort zone, due to the serenity of the office environment.
Do you miss social interactions when working remotely? |
---|
Of course, there's no way I will not miss interacting with others in the course of working from home. Even when using mediums such as zoom meetings, it is usually official, no time for interaction as everything is usually kept at minimum.
Imagine if there was no interaction in the course of my work, I would not have heard of Steemit, because it was through interactions with my students that got me introduced to steemit.
Although, I know that over interaction with others can breach your work ethics, so I'll say that I'll miss some healthy social interaction while working from home hence, my choice of working from the office rather than working from home.
What’s your ideal work setup?
If you may know, my ideal work place should be a convenient environment where I can work comfortably and devoid of distractions. It should also be well organized with all the necessary tools to help me achieve my goals at the end of the day.
My work space should be accompanied with like minds that will encourage me to be better and not discourage or kill my enthusiasm for achieving my specific goals. In general, my work space should be a comfortable place, well spaced out and we'll organized and surrounded with the necessary tools and lastly, it should be peaceful.
