Trying out the new camera

A cloud eclipses the sun over Grays Harbor, Wash.

We didn't get to see the solar eclipse here in Washington state, as far as I know, but this cloud eclipsed the sun while I was taking a photowalk along the bay this afternoon.

I was out practicing with my new Canon EOS 80D. I upgraded from a point-and-shoot Canon ELPH 180 just this week; today was only the second time I took the new camera out for a walk.

Two things have become clear with the new camera so far: 1) I have a ton to learn about 'real' photography; and 2) the possible subjects are endless with a real camera.

I felt bewildered today, on both points, but especially on the second. I had no idea what to photograph, because it seemed like everything could become the subject of an interesting photo, and now my equipment is capable of photographing just about everything. I didn't know what to choose, how to frame it, what to include or exclude.

Bewildering ... and exciting! I'm really looking forward to taking this next step.
