PORTRAIT OF A ROOSTER
A rooster, also known as a cock is an adult male chicken. It is characterised by:
- Comb, which is a red fleshy growth on top of its head which serves as a secondary sex characteristic to attract hens.
- Wattle: This is the red skin found under the beak which also helps in sex display.
- It is always larger than the hen with long tail feathers.
- It has sharp spurs used for defence.
- Territorial defence: A rooster is known for protecting a flock of hens.
Economic importance of rooster
- It serves as a source of food (protein)
- Source of income
- It dumb serves as a fertiliser.
Materials for drawing
- White A4 paper
- 2B pencil
- 6B pencil
- 10B pencil
- Eraser
- Razie blade
Step 1
I began by drawing the beak (mouth) of the rooster after which I drew the comb.
Step 2
Here, I drew the wattles which are the red skin under the beak. I also drew part of the neck.
Step 3
I drew the eye, the ear and the ear lobe
Step 4
I shaded the comb of the rooster using a 6B and 10B pencil. I also shaded the eye.
Step 5
I shaded the beak (mouth) and wattles using a 6B and a 10B pencil.
Step 6
Here which is the last step, I shaded the ear, the ear lobe and and the remaining part of the rooster using a 2B, 6B and a 10B pencil. I finally wrote my name and date on the paper.
