Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W3; Cervical Radiculopathy"
Greetings teachers and students!
Am happy to participate in week3 of this learning
challenge, i appreciate @ashkan for this privilege, with immediate effect i will love to carry on with my assignment.
What's Cervical Radiculopathy? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.
Cervical radiculopathy is a pinched or irritated nerve around the neck region causing severe pains numbness or weakness that radiate into the chest or arm.
Symptoms may require medical diagnosis although people may experience :
• pains area this are usually around the neck area arm and shoulder
• pain type this can be dull especially when it's newly developed.
• sensory reduced sensation of touch.
Cervical radiculopathy is a serious condition that should not be neglected because this can escalate and permanently damage nerve if its unattended to,one can take about 6 weeks to six months to heal depending on the underlying cause.
the early stages, people with this illness is best to avoid strenuous activities such as heavy lifting and excessive reaching of affected arm. also try to avoid activities that tip the head in a backwards or sideways position for any length of time, this can sometimes trigger arm symptoms
How would you diagnose a Cervical Radiculopathy? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?
• C T scan, this scan will give me more detailed pictures of the cervical a spine.
• MRI,to check for damage to nerve roots or soft tissues.
• X-rays, to look for narrowing of vertebral openings or disk injury.
positioning the patient with the neck extended and the head rotated, and then applying downward pressure on the head, this is called the compression test and it is probably the best test for confirming the diagnosis of cervical radiculopathy.
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising
Isometrics neck retraction
I placed my two arms on my head the i tilt the muscle around my neck region to and fro while still firmly holding onto my head for a good stretch,This exercise helps to reduce pain and improve muscle that was shortened in the pain phase.
This is the trapezius scalene levator scapulae stretch.
I sat on a wooden chair with my left arm beneath my labs holding down my shoulder then i used my right hand to hold my head down to the right.
Isometric neck flexion
I placed one of my hand on my forehead give it a little backward push while white i try to strengthen my neck muscle.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient.
After performing the exercise i see reason is very important to carry out this exercise even if i am not suffering from cervical radiculopathy because i felt great relief which is very beneficial to my health.
And to someone who is suffering cervical radiculopathy this exercise can help you to know if you are healing also help you manage pain, strengthen muscles and improve the range of motion in the neck.
Am inviting @beevicsam @dequeen @ubongudofot to also participate.
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (2.7/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about cervical radiculopathy, and it's causes, symptoms, treatment, but you can also add the vertebrae involve in cervical radiculopathy & it's second name too. A bit more depth require to complete the answer. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.8/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing the physical examination, history taking, investigations of patients and specialized tests. You have share good knowledge but the best test for nerve examination is NCS nerve conduction study & EMG to assess. Great.
Task 3 (3.8/4)
You try the isometric cervical flexion, retraction and upper trapezoius stretch. This is gonna be the first participation in which users apply the good resistance and while performing keep the correct posture. Also you apply the trapezoius stretch in correct way. Remember always apply heating pad to relax your muscles before performing these exercises. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any cervical radiculopathy. Thank you.
Thank you for the review
