Hope you all are doing well and good and enjoying the best days of your life. This is me @shahid2030 from Pakistan and you are here reading my post. You all are welcome here from the core of my heart.
This is my participation in a contest Carpal Tunnel Syndrome organized in Steem Physio & Rehab by @ashkhan .
What's carpal tunnel syndrome? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post. |

Carpal tunnel syndrome, we called CTS is a condition caused by pressure on the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel, a narrow passage in the wrist. This nerve has some important functions, which includes controlling sensation and movement in parts of the hand, especially the thumb, index, middle finger, and part of the ring finger.
Causes
1. The most common reason of Carpal tunnel syndrome's is the compression of the median nerve, which passes from the forearm to the wrist through a passage called the carpal tunnel.
2. Too much work which includes wrist function may also cause CTS, especially using computer keyboard for typing or other vibrating objects. It weaken the wrist muscles.
3. Their is a by birth reason behind CTS too, and it's when the median nerve is larger than the carpal tunnel.
4. In women hormonal changes like in pregnancy or menopause could also be the reasons behind it
5. Wrist injuries, or conditions like arthritis or in some cases diabetes can also increase the risk of developing CTS.
Symptoms
1. It results in numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain in the hand and wrist.
2. The forearm muscles get weaker due to repetitive use.
3. The wrist muscles feel pain mostly at night
Types
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) has various types, let's talk about these one by one here.
Acute CTS It happens due to trauma or injury.
Chronic CTS It happens due to repetitive use.
Primary CTS Their is no specific reason known for it.
Secondary CTS It happens due to any secondary disease like pregnancy, diabetes mellitus, and thyroid etc.
How would you diagnose a carpal tunnel syndrome? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests? |
---|
It's treatment often includes rest, wrist braces, and exercises. However in severe cases, surgery is needed to relieve pressure on the nerve. One need a proper physical examination by a physician or physical therapist.
You need to go through EMG to measure the electrical activity of muscles. Another test called NCS ( nerve conduction study) is an important test for it. Through it we can measure the strength of muscles and also its speed.
Tests to diagnose
We have various tests to diagnose the CTS disorder. They are the following.
• Phalen's Test
• Flicks Test
• Reverse Phalen's Test
• Tinel's Sign
• Median Nerve Compression
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practicing preferably gifs or videos. |

Bending the wrist and sticking hand to the wall is the best exercise I have found out. It gives wrist muscle fatigue and you really feel that exercise.
The next one is closing your feast and moving your wrist up and down. This exercise really help out us in strengthening our forearms and wrist muscles.
Last but not the least is of carrying weight in hand and doing wrist exercise with it. This exercise we woud do at gym using heavy weight. It's my favorite and high result giving exercise.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient. |

I am doing this exercise since long time. I have been doing it in gym with heavy weight, we call it wrist or forearms exercise. It helps strengthen your wrist and forearms.
Yes it has been good experience performing it. I have watched the videos and tried to imitate it. I can feel my wrist muscles getting squeezed and tired. This is the same muscle fatigue I am getting at gym.
Before I had an injury at my wrist muscle. It was hard for me even to pick a heavy object. It got injured in a fight. I have recovered it through these exercises.
This is all about my blog for today, hope you guys have enjoyed reading it. See you soon with a new amazing and interesting topic, till take care.

Your presence here means alot
Thanks for being here
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about carpal tunnel syndrome, its symptoms, cause, and its types. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.7/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination, history taking, special tests and investigations. But it would be better to add explanation of 2 to 3 tests. Great.
Task 3 (4/4)
You try the CTS stretches, median nerve glides and weight bearing exercises. You did the wrist stretch, median nerve glides and weight bearing exercises correctly. Always remember to apply heat pack before performing exercises to relax the muscles and reduce stiffness. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome or any type of wrist. Thank you.
