RE: ❓Steemit Quiz 2025 - Week 12
x₂ has 8 options (cannot be W2 or W1).
I think this might be where it's not right...
There isn't a rule to say that a matching 2nd number wins anything other than the possibility of 1 STEEM.
So x2 can be equal to W2 and still be a losing ticket.
In my example of 123, the ticket 420 will win nothing, despite matching the 2nd number.
Apologies for lots of comments. I'm trying to get my head around the logic.
This would also explain why the code thinks that 1040 is possible when it's not.
With your inputs I recheck the code and YES, 1040 is not possible and I think I made a mistake there with core logic.
The code only checks if the first digit of the winning number (1 in 123) is found in other positions, not if the second or third digits match.
Total: 896
Since 123 is a unique set of winning numbers this is the only possibility. I tried all the possibilities and double checked here ,
Steem Lottery 123
This is seriously good conversation because I think we've cleared a lot of doubts and also users can really see inside logic now. Thank you for building up this conversation to this level.
Ah, I've been working on the basis that the super number is based upon the ticket number - rather than the winning number! Even though you told me it was the winning number!
Which as you say, means that 896 is the max (without a rollover) and duplicate numbers make little difference - other than when they're all the same. In which case a total of 887 is possible (hopefully you get the same here too).
Did I ever tell you that my first degree was in Maths & Computer Science - I never did like the Maths 😆
I guess that means @event-horizon gets the 1/2 point instead of @henryclive?
Seems like I asked the wrong question form the wrong person 😆
henryclive made this comment first,
That's why I thought he should get the 1/2 point.
Yes, (50+270+405+162) 887 it is. Finally we are on the same page. I messed up with that logic at the beginning but now it is crystal clear after putting everything to the excel sheet.
Seems like we had a productive 36hours 😅
Ah yes, he was 1 hour before event-horizon!
At least I know now what questions to avoid 😂
I'm not so sure about that. If you give me a definition and theorem and ask me to prove a corollary, I might be ok... but I doubt it.
At school, I loved maths. At university, I learnt to hate it.
Not gonna buy that... Those who say they hate math are actually the ones who are good

I gave up when he didn't accepted 896.
Didn't know henryclive already answered it in a nested comment. 🥲
