FOOTBALL DAILY : LEWANDOWSKI CRUELLY ROBBED FOR THE PAST TWO SEASONS
For some years now, there has been quite a several controversies concerning the award of the Ballon d'Or award and how it is awarded.
In 2018, the award was given to Luka Modric (Real Madrid, Croatia); after he won the Champions League with the Los Blancos and captained his country to the World Cup final, where they lost to the current defending champions, France. He was awarded the Ballon d'Or.
This choice of candidate for this award has been questioned so many times till date because, in that same year, Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, Portugal) spearheaded Los Blancos Champions League campaign. He was the top goal scorer for both the Champions League and Real Madrid. He also won several Man-of-the-Match awards too but Cristiano Ronaldo wasn't given the award.
This year, Robert Lewandowski was the victim and has been robbed of the Ballon d'Or. This is because, in 2020, he was unquestionably and undoubtedly the best player of the season throughout Europe. He won quite a several Trophies with Bayern Munich; The Champions League, Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal just to mention a few. He was also the Top Goalscorer for every league or cup he participated in; and also had the most goals across all leagues.
He wasn't given the award last year because of some reasons of Covid-19 the organizers of the Ballon d'Or organizers, French Football, gave for not organizing the ceremony. That didn't stop him, he continued the next season, that is, the 2020/21 season to win the Bundesliga, The Super Cup, the Club World and some other domestic cups; while being the top goal scorer across all the top five(5) leagues with an astounding Goal-to-Game ratio of 1.33 (48 Goals in 36 Games).
So, for the past 2 Seasons, Lewandowski has averagely been better than Lionel Messi and even for the fact that Lewandowski wasn't given his award for Last Season, it should be a courtesy and a form of respect to at least honour his work for the past seasons by awarding him with this year's Ballon d'Or. It's not his fault the world was hit with Covid-19.
Over the years, many players have been robbed. Just because of Messi-Ronaldo popularity. According to me the players robbed till now are as follows:
Yes, exactly. The Ballon d’Or is actually losing it’s value if not to the world at large, to me. I hope it changes in the coming years.
