Business idea for those who knows how to crochet/knitting or those who like to learn | 5% for SL Charity
Everyone has their own hobbies to spend their free time. What if you can turn your hobby into a business. Isn’t it great? This is for those who know crochet and knitting or those who like to learn it.
At first, I wanted to learn crochet because I saw beautiful handmade items. My love for cute little things drove me into this direction. When I start crochet, it was mainly about Amigurumi. Amigurumi is making crochet toys and dolls.
When I was learning it, it came into my mind this can be a good business idea. If you search for crochet products, you can find many markets that they sell. Among those “Etsy” is a very best place for selling crochet, Amigurumi products. There are big number of customers all around the world.
Not only your crochet products, but you can also sell your own patterns to those who search for patterns to do their projects. This made me very interesting towards that business idea. Sadly, Etsy payment is not available for my country. so I cannot open a new shop until they gives Etsy payment option for our country. If Etsy payment is available for your country, you can easily open a shop and start selling. You can find the Etsy payment available countries here. Charges in Etsy are lower than the other selling platforms.
Then I was looking for other platforms that are related with crochet. More than selling my products, I was searching where I can sell my patterns. That’s when I found this platform called “Ravelry”.

My Projects
Ravelry is not just a platform for you to sell your patterns, you can manage a notebook of your projects also. Even you can add your targets for a period into this notebook. In ravelry, you cannot sell your crochet products, but you can sell your patterns. If you are selling, either you can sell it directly on Ravelry or you can refer your blog or Etsy kind of other shops there. To sell in Ravelry, you must have a Paypal account. Charges for Ravelry will only be added based on your selling. And the rate is not too much high either.

Here we cannot get the real value for them. I don't want my products to be some cheap things that people will buy because it is cheap. I want to give them the value they deserve.

This is awsome. I don't know why we don't have etsy for srilanka. It'll be really helpful for local creators
It was available before april 2021. After that they introduced etsy payment and now we cannot open new shops. Old shops that are opened before that date can operate as before.

The thing with crocheting is that it's hard to find yarn here no matter how hard I try. I'm not satisfied with the results of the animals that I crocheted with wool 😑
The best brand we can find here is Handy. But it is also not available in our area. I bought one color last week from ambalangoda and it is really rough 😖
