The Real Video Vlogging Adventure Challenge

Mirpur No. 10 is one of the busiest areas of the capital, Dhaka. And Shahali Plaza is located right next to this busy roundabout. Thousands of people visit this area every day for shopping or commuting. However, the alley just behind this plaza is like a small paradise for street food lovers (I had participated in another contest with street food chicken momos earlier). Every afternoon, there is a stall selling all kinds of delicious food. Recently, one afternoon, to satisfy my little daughter's cravings and spend some happy time with her, we went to this street food corner behind Shahali Plaza. Today's post is about our experience of that trip and the two great dishes there.

Street Food: Fuchka & Vhelpuri

1. Which street food did you feature in your video vlog and what made it special or attractive to you?

In the cool afternoon breeze, my daughter suddenly craved fuchka, so I took her straight to a small but bustling shop behind Shahali Plaza. There are a few reasons why I am featuring these two traditional street foods from Mirpur 10 on my blog.

Savory Vhelpuri

Firstly, it's incredibly affordable in price. While a plate of good fuchka costs Tk 50 to Tk 80 these days, this shop serves extremely crunchy fuchka and delicious vhelpuri just Tk 30. Along with this, the pure sour taste of tamarind and the perfect balance of spices make it unique. And most importantly, the unwavering smile that these two dishes brought to my daughter’s face has created a special place in my heart for this shop.

1. Crispy Fuchka:

Within a few minutes of ordering, we received the crispy fuchka. It was served with salad and light chaat masala. The sour and salty was absolutely perfect—I had the sweet and sour taste; it was delicious. As soon as I handed the first puff to my daughter, I felt that our visit was worth it. The puffs were really crunchy and fresh.

2. Savory Vhelpuri:

My wife and I ate Vhelpuri. The mixture of potatoes and lentils inside the Vhelpuri was very spicy. With chopped onions, green chillies and coriander leaves sprinkled on top, every bite had a wonderful, refreshing taste. This combination of spicy and sour made for a great evening for me.

2. Did you experience any funny, surprising, or memorable moments while recording your street food vlog? Briefly describe them.

Yes, there was a wonderful and memorable moment while recording the video. When I was recording the scene of making fuchka with my mobile camera turned on, my little girl went to her mother and said very sweetly, Dad only makes videos! When her innocent and happy expression was captured on camera, we all burst into laughter. She thought that if her father only makes videos, he might not give her fuchka! This simple statement of the girl and the quick expression on her face will be one of the most wonderful and memorable moments of my entire vlogging journey. Even the uncle of the shop was smiling and joking with us after seeing the camera and hearing her words, which made the whole atmosphere very lively.

3. How did the atmosphere of the street food area, the vendors, and the visitors make your vlogging experience more enjoyable?

In my opinion, the atmosphere of this street food area in Mirpur 10 was like a traditional Dhaka evening—busy, noisy, and festive. People were eating and chatting around, while the vendors were quickly preparing food. The vendor at the shop was very friendly. She didn't seem bothered by me filming, but instead decorated the fuchkas more beautifully and shared a short story about her fuchka-making recipe. Other visitors or buyers nearby were also very cooperative, and no one seemed uncomfortable with the camera. This lively atmosphere, the smiling faces of the vendors, and the interaction of people made my vlogging experience much more enjoyable and easy.

4. Which street food item or food stall would you recommend others to try and why?

I would highly recommend everyone to try the Special Vhelpuri from this small stall behind Shahali Plaza. The main reason for this is the amazing taste of the spicy potato and dal filling inside their vhelpuri. The fresh combination of chopped onion, green chilli and coriander leaves on top, along with their tamarind chutney, makes the taste of Vhelpuri unforgettable. Secondly, the way they cover the food and maintain cleanliness despite being a roadside shop is really commendable. And the most important thing is that for just 30 taka (about 5.4 STEEM), such a satisfying and delicious Vhelpuri is available in the entire Mirpur area. So, those who come to Mirpur should not miss the taste of this Vhelpuri.

Conclusion

I think that sometimes a small street food tour like this works as a great tonic to relieve the fatigue of a busy life. Especially the joy of putting a little smile on the faces of loved ones in the family is different. The taste of this phuchka and vhelpuri behind Sha Ali Plaza really made our afternoon colorful. Those of you who come to the Mirpur 10 area, definitely don't forget to taste the street food of this street.
