I guess you are new on Steem. It's not really about 'follow back'. I'm selective about who I follow. In any case I have moved to the Hive fork of Steem as things are going downhill here since Justin Sun bought out Steemit. You can still try to build a following, but do it with relevant comments and real interaction. Good luck.
